HISTORICAL COMMENTS ABOUT THE PLACE:Via delle Volte is one of the oldest and most suggestive streets in Ferrara. This name is due to the many arches and vaults that can be found along the road. In ancient times a branch of the Po river flowed here and the vaults served as an air passage to connect the warehouses that stood on the banks of the river with the shops and houses of the merchants.
