Historical comments about the place:
Until the end of the 19th century, the carriage generally pulled by one or more horses was the means of transport most used by people. The driver was called coachman, the passengers of the carriage were placed inside a more or less sumptuous interior.
One of the first closed carriages was built for the wedding of Galeazzo I Visconti and Beatrice d’Este, princess of Ferrara, and duchess of Milan in 1300, daughter of Ercole I d’Este, Lord of Ferrara.
From that moment the use of the carriage spread as a privilege of noble families only.
In Italy owning this kind of means of transport became a fashion and from the mid 16th century the Ferrara’s industries became the most renowned international carriages producers.
In the end of the 18th century, because of the introduction of means of transport with a motor, the use of the carriages was slowly abandoned in favor of these new vehicles.
