HISTORICAL COMMENTS ABOUT THE PLACE: The Ferrara couple, the typical double horn-shaped bread (or two lovers embraced, for the most romantic) dates back even to 1536, when, during a carnival, in a dinner set for the Duke of Ferrara, Messer Giglio presented on the table a twisted bread , as a tribute to the curls of Lucrezia Borgia, who arrived in the city as the wife of Duke Alfonso d'Este. Some gossips, on the other hand, trace the current double horn conformation precisely in reference to the unfortunate marriage between the two. Today the Ferrara couple (ciupeta) is a bakery product with a protected geographical indication typical of the province of Ferrara .
