Historical content of the place: This is the place where the old supplies market was. It's in the Calle Real(Royal Street), in front of the church of Las Mercedes(the saint patron of Alcalá). The building around it remain from the first years of the XX century. The fountain owes its name to a local legend:
A young muslim girl("la Mora" in Spanish) had to go to the fountain to get water for her mother, who was ill. She had to do it in secret, as the fountain was in christian territory(at that moment the muslim people who lived in the fortress of La Mota were being besieged by the christians, who wanted to take the castle). But a christian captain discovered her, so she told him her story to try to persuade him to let her take the water. He let her do it, but in exchange he asked her to take off her veil so that he could admire her beauty. From that day, she would go to the fountain every day to get water for her mother and see the captain. They fell in love, and even though they knew that their romance was forbidden, she kept going there even when her mother died. But then the girl's father came back from a long trip he had been in and when he found out about their love he wouldn't let her out of the fortress to see her lover. Until one day she escaped and went to the fountain to meet with the captain. Unfortunately, her father caught them by surprise and as he said "You shall be dead before being in the arms of a christian, I swear it on Alá!" he stabbed her in the heart with a dagger. From that day the fountain has been called "Fuente de la Mora"("Fountain of the muslim girl" in English)
