HISTORICAL COMMENTS ABOUT THE PLACE: It represents an important event in the Spanish independence of Napoleonic France. The artist José Álvarez Cubero, sculpted this work after the end of the French occupation, becoming his most important work. The sculpture represents an episode of the time, in which a son defends his father during the capture of Zaragoza. The sculpture makes formal reference to the classical world and is a seminal piece of the neo-classical Spanish period.
