Historical comments about place: Saltworks in Ston, one of the three salt pans in Croatia, is the oldest in Europe and possibly in the world. It dates back to the 14th century and is still in operation today. It was born after the Dubrovnik Republic bought Ston in 1333 and in 1360 it was defensive with a defensive wall.
